Back In The Day....The Bronx

-
Disclaimer: After seeing Miss Dre's Post on "My Adidas" (click here).. I started reminising about the good ol' days growing up in the BX (The Bronx).. Back in the day... Take a look at my "Back in the day" moment (this article is a year old) & also don't forget to check out my girl Miss Dre over at "So she writes by Miss Dre".. Great Site!
I am an 80’s baby where growing up all we had to worry about is making it home before the street lights. Growing up in The Bronx (Before moving to Jersey) all we did was listening to DJ Red Alert & Kid Capri. My favorite artist back in the day was Onyx; you couldn’t tell me nothing when an Onyx song came on. Back In the day I would borrow my BFF big hoop earrings and Herringbone chain and wear my baggy clothes to school every day. Remember when: “Pop Rocks” was the candy that everyone brought? Remember the one cent candies? Remember when fighting was just battling each other by dancing. I am: Cross colors, Karl
Kani and Guess Jeans with the triangle logo on the back of the jeans. I am from an era where the music was real and we had a wide variety of it like: “Kid n Play, Big Daddy Kane, Wu Tang Clan, Salt n Pepa, Queen Latifah, Kris Kross, Run DMC, MC Lyte, Lords of the Underground, Heavy D, Paula Abdul, Lisa Lisa and The Cult Jam, LL Cool J, Nice Smooth, Rob Base, Fresh Prince & Jazzy Jeff, Doug E. Fresh, Black Sheep, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, Slick Rick, Special Ed, and Das Efex, KRS-one (South Bronx)” were some of the few songs that ruled the stations. I am from the era where you had to have at least five different colorful Reebok hi-tops in order to fit in the group. I am from an era where the “Wop, Cabbage Patch, Running Man, The Butterfly, Snake and even the Smuf” was the hottest dance moves ever. Growing up it was all about “Thundercats, Ducktails, Cosby show, Full house, Skate Key, Acid Wash Jeans, Yo! MTV Raps, Word up posters, Donnie Simpson, Fun dip candy, My little Pony, Smurfs, Barbie dream house, etc.” I am old school Hip Hop, I am from an era that I miss but the memories will always last forever… I miss the 80’s….. (and early 90’s)!

I miss those times! I didn't grow up in the Bronx, but hearing Hip-Hop for the first time made me feel such a connection to New York. I remember rocking bamboo earrings, reebox, and my prized herringbone as a youngster and I promise you nobody could tell me nothin'!

Thank you for sharing this trip down memory lane with us, Tammy. You really make me long for the good old days ;-)
